Favorite Tip #43: Mosquitos

Many folks claim that mosquitos avoid biting people who drink lots of pickle juice. Is this true or a myth?

  1. I’ve never heard this. Who knows?

    • Hi Gerri, My husband swears this is true. I’m not so sure. Mosquitos are a hot topic here in Texas due to the West Nile virus outbreak. Cheers, Ashley

  2. I’d never heard that before, but I think it’s a myth considering how many pickles I ate as a kid and all the pickle juice I drank. It didn’t stop the little buggers from biting me. 🙂

    • That’s pretty strong evidence, Rhonda. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

  3. My guess is that it’s a myth.

    • My guess, too, Jolyse. But my husband claims otherwise. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

  4. My husband is a big fan of pickle juice and rarely gets bitten. But he rarely gets anything.

    • I don’t know if we can use him as a data point, Beth. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

  5. I haven’t heard that one, but I have heard that mosquitoes don’t like the blood of people who regularly eat garlic.

    • Hi Julie, I may be the exception to your garlic rule–eat lots of garlic powder, but still get bitten regularly. Hmm, maybe it’s because of the powder as oppose to fresh garlic? Cheers, Ashley
