Question of the Week #37 – 2013: Culture

What does being tolerant mean to you?

My two cents (but please share yours):

Being tolerant, in my opinion, means treating people with an opposite point of view with respect and kind words.

  1. Being tolerant involves listening and giving what a person with an opposing view has to say; not necessarily agreeing, but giving their point of view serious consideration. It does not mean agreeing just to maintain peace. It does not mean ignoring their belief in clearly false ‘facts’. Sometimes it means agreeing to disagree.

    • You are so right, Kay. I wish some in the mainstream press would give their opponents this courtesy instead of insults and slurs. They don’t have to agree, but they should not be unkind. Cheers, Ashley
