Favorite Tip #81: Bacon-cheeseburger Salad

Favorite Tip #81: Bacon-cheeseburger Salad

When you’re craving a bacon cheeseburger, but you don’t want to ruin your eating plan, try a bacon-cheeseburger salad.

  • 1T ketchup
  • 1t yellow mustard
  • 1t onion powder
  • 2-4 T plain, nonfat yogurt
  • 2 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 oz. shredded cheddar
  • 2 oz. ground turkey, browned and crumbled
  • 2-3 c lettuce and salad veggies of choice

Mix the first seven ingredients, pour over the lettuce and veggies, and serve.

Optional: You can also add diced hamburger pickles or diced mushrooms.

  1. Vegetarian here, just saying…

    • Hi Patti, All you have to do is leave off the bacon–or use soy bacon–and the turkey crumbles. The core of the flavor comes from the ketchup, mustard, and cheese. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

      • I almost forgot that turkey crumbles can be replaced with veggie-burger crumbles. Hope that works for you, Patti. Cheers, Ashley

  2. never thought of pickling hamburgers

    • Wow, Mona, that’s an interesting idea. I’ll have to play with it. I love pickled asparagus. Cheers, Ashley

      • well, you did mention hamburger pickles

      • So true, Mona. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

  3. Eewww. You started with two of my least favorite tastes, catsup and mustard. No, thanks.

    • Hi David, I’ll keep that in mind for future posts. The interesting part is that you use “catsup.” I grew up in Delaware using “ketchup.” Is “catsup” a Texas version? Cheers, Ashley

      • Actually, it depends on whether it’s Hunt’s or Del Monte.

      • Interesting branding, David. Cheers, Ashley
