Question of the Week #50 – 2013: Culture

Question of the Week #49 – 2013: Culture

When should Christmas decorations appear in the stores?

My two cents (but please share yours):

I love the holiday season but believe each holiday should get its fair share of displays. It would be nice if we could have Thanksgiving Day decorations up until, well, Thanksgiving Day. Busy elves could work their magic–after the Macy’s Santa ends his parade. Then on Black Friday morning, the world could rise to all glittery things red, white, and green. And perhaps we could have a few public reminders of the true reason for Christmas.

  1. I basically agree with you, Ashley, except that I wish all Christmas decorations involved crosses and manger scenes and such.

    • Such decorations certainly would make the season beautiful, David. Cheers, Ashley

  2. Totally. I believe we should start thinking about Christmas after Turkey Day.

    • And the weather would at least “feel a bit like Christmas,” Patti. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

  3. I can tolerate the decorations coming on the shelves after Halloween, since Thanksgiving (Fall) decor shows up in late September, but Christmas decor next to Halloween decor just takes some fun out of both seasons. As for religious scenes, we should have the freedom to decorate as we please. In public places we have seen fewer as people complain, but it’s impossible not to offend someone these days, and those offended might want to show some of the consideration they ask of others.

    • So true, Kay. Consideration should go both ways. Cheers, Ashley

  4. Christmas decorations (in stores, at least) should definitely wait until AFTER Thanksgiving – give each holiday it’s proper due!

  5. I don’t like to see Christmas decorations up until after Thanksgiving. I refuse to buy anything Christmasy until after Thanksgiving.

    • I’m with you on this, Gerri. Cheers, Ashley

  6. As long as people care about Christmas!

    • Welcome, Elizabeth. I believe most people do care about Christmas, a lot. Cheers, Ashley
