How Do We Fix This?  Week #2– 2014

How do we avoid being low-information voters?

My two cents (but please share yours):

To be well-informed voters, we need to understand both sides of all the major issues. This requires listening to supporters on each side present their arguments in favorable venues.

With an increasingly busy writing schedule, my solution is to watch an hour of news per day while preparing and eating supper.  Half of this time is spent watching a left-leaning station like ABC or CNN. The other half is spent on right-leaning Fox News’ “Special Report with Brett Baier.” Just this small amount of effort has kept me aware of what’s happening in the world.

  1. Learning all sides of a question does help. 🙂

    • Absolutely, Gerri. I often find that opposite sides aren’t quite so far apart. Cheers, Ashley

  2. The League of Women Voters and other such organizations don’t care whether you are knowledgeable or not. They just want you to vote. I’ve always hated these “Get-out-the-vote” campaigns because they encourage uninformed voting.

    • Hi David. True but what are your thoughts on how to become well-informed voters, especially when we’re all so busy? Cheers, Ashley
