Superfood of the Week – Ginger

What is your favorite recipe that uses this food?

My two cents (but please share yours):

I have many recipes that use either fresh or ground ginger. Here’s a good one for summer. Mix two generous shakes of ground ginger with a squirt of agave nectar in a tall glass. Add 1/4c of chilled sparkling water and stir until thoroughly blended. Taste to check for balance between the ginger and agave, adjusting if necessary. Then, fill the glass with more chilled sparkling water, but stir only once. Enjoy.


  1. I love fresh ginger! My favorites are a spicy carrot-ginger soup and vegetable stir fry with a ginger sauce. I’ll have to try your drink though, since I drink a lot of plain fizzy water since giving up commercial soda.

    • Hope you really enjoy the drink, Vickie. Also, you can substitute other herbs and spices for the ginger. The quantities will be about the same. Cinnamon is good, and curry makes for a fun savory drink. I’ve also tried cold steeping (overnight) fresh peppermint in a 1/4c of cold regular water. Then just add the agave and sparkling water. Also, how do you make your ginger sauce? Cheers, Ashley

  2. Never tried using it, although my mother used to make gingerbread which was pretty tasty.

    • Gingerbread is one of my favorites, too, David. It was a treat that reappeared every fall, along with candy corn and caramel apples. Cheers, Ashley
