Techie Corner – 2015 – Post #6 – Outliers

How should politicians handle outlier data?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Politicians should handle outlier data points the same way scientists and statisticians do. Taking outlier points and treating them as the norm is never going to lead to good policy.

On the other hand, outliers must never be moved on or deleted from any technical chart. An outlier point may have a corresponding footnote explaining why it may be an outlier. But the point must remain right where it is, no data doctoring allowed.
