Picoblog Question – 2015 – Post #28

Do you know what to do when the tornado sirens go off?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Each day for about a week, our north Texas weather folks have been saying the following.

  • Get inside
  • Go to the first floor of the building you’re in
  • Go to an interior room (no glass windows)
  • Cover yourself with blankets and pillows.

  1. I’m not sure we have tornado sirens here, but if I heard sirens I’d look outside and then go down in the basement where there is an enclosed room with no windows. I hope this never happens, because I’m not sure I’d get all the animals down the basement steps. The cats, all you have to do is open the door and shake the treat can. For the dogs, I’d probably bribe them with treats, too.

    • Great technique, Gerri. The treats worked on our cats on Sunday morning. Cheers, Ashley

  2. My sister in Oklahoma said she and her dog sit in a closet.

    • A lot of folks in tornado alley do that, Linda. Cheers, Ashley

  3. I’ve always also heard to open windows on the north and east side of the house to keep reduced pressure from the storm fro exploding the house.

    • That makes sense, David. Since moving to Texas, I’ve noticed tornadoes often tend to move from the southwest to the northeast. Their damage path seems to as well. Cheers, Ashley
