Picoblog Question – 2015 – Post #49
Who is your favorite painter, and what is it about their pictures that draws you?
My two cents, but please share yours:
Although I love Monet, Turner, and Picasso, my favorite artist is Claude Lorrain (1600-1682). His landscapes include pastoral, biblical, and classical mythological features and are mostly set at sunrise or sunset. His use of light is extraordinary. These paintings require careful study to see the beautiful details and the spirit he’s infused throughout.
Two R’s – Remington and Russell. They paint Western scenes. I like several others of that genre, but I can’t recall their names.

I’ve never studied Western paintings, David, but perhaps it’s time to check them out. Cheers, Ashley

You should. Western art has a beauty beyond that of other art.

The majesty of Rocky Mountain scenes, the historical significance of cowboys and their horses – pictures of rundown castles or bowls of fruit can’t compare with these in my opinion.

I can agree with you on the bowls of fruit, David. Scottish castles, rundown or not–love them. I’ll have to check out the Rocky Mountain scenes you mentioned. They do sound appealing. Cheers, Ashley
