Picoblog Question – 2015 – Post #56

What are the benefits of the 2D political-definitions model over the 1D model?

My two cents, but please share yours:

First, Libertarians (higher-freedom Centrists) and Totalitarians (lower-freedom Centrists) represent approximately 25% of the US population. These individuals are not represented on the moderate-freedom 1D (Liberal left–Centrist–Conservative right) model. The 2D model, which is based on the Nolan chart ( ), fixes this problem.

Second, the 2D model separates out the social/personal freedoms from the economic freedoms, making for unique, not-quite-so-overlapping political-viewpoint definitions.
