Techie Corner – 2015 – Post #15 – Surveillance Debate

Is the current debate over the NSA’s surveillance helpful for the United States?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Absolutely. It is far better to develop government-surveillance boundaries, restrictions, and requirements now while we’re dealing with phone conversations than later when the government has the technology to quite literally read our minds.

  1. I worry about the plans for disrupting behavior before it begins…on whose say so? On what basis? Too close to Minority Report with decisions made on a political or social basis. Too restrictive. We need to be cautious, not foolish

  2. I think it’s important too. I had to give up my dreams of going incognito a long time ago. It’s just too hard. Big brother is everywhere.

    • Fortunately, D. Wallace, we have a brief opportunity to manage big brother before he gets too big. Cheers, Ashley

  3. If you have nothing to hide, who cares whose listening. Never assume private is private. That is a falsehood.

    • Another great point, Lorian. Cheers, Ashley
