Picoblog Question – 2015 – Post #59

On this first day of fall, what will you do to celebrate the new season?

My two cents, but please share yours:

I’m going to make a hearty chicken-and-corn chowder for supper–even if it is currently ninety degrees here in north Texas.

  1. I was thinking about calling the weather service and letting them know it’s supposed to be fall now.

    • Here in Texas, they never get the memo, David. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

  2. This morning I mentioned to a co-worker that today was the equinox and she asked what that was. So I said equal day/night. Ah, she said, she’d heard the word but did not know what it meant.

She is almost my age, a lovely gentle woman who has a sweet husband and a very nice child (my employer), and last week celebrated her 49th wedding anniversary. She seemed interested so I then mentioned that in December the days would start getting longer again, but we’d probably not notice it for a while because it would be pretty dark both before and after work. She then asked if the dates were always the same and I was sort of stumped – and said I thought not, it might vary by a few hours and thus be the day before or day after.

So this evening I will puzzle over what people know and do not know.

    • That’s a little scary, Aunt Mary, especially if these nice folks vote. Cheers, Ashley

      • (Heh. Thank heaven the equinox doesn’t come up for a vote. But I’d like a vote on daylight-savings! 😉 )

It’s funny though. I’d rather have them for neighbors than any number of well-to-do highly educated folks I’ve known. Kinda like someone dear to both of us said he’d rather live next door to Eva than whats-his-face next door… for she was a better person in the ways that really count. Plenty of food for thought.

      • Eva was so special, Aunt Mary. I miss her. And I’d like a vote on that daylight-savings thing, too–so hate the twice per year adjustment my body never handles well. Cheers, Ashley

  3. Um…it’s the first day of fall? We had a fire this morning in the woodstove. Does that count? It was cozy.

    • Absolutely, D. Wallace. I’m so jealous that you needed the woodstove. Here in north Dallas, we’re still in the nineties. Cheers, Ashley
