Techie Corner – 2015 – Post #16 – Abundance Society
When will the transition from a scarcity society (limited necessities of life) to an abundance society (unlimited supply of these necessities) take place?
My two cents, but please share yours:
The transition is occurring now. Thanks to recent advances in emerging technology such as nanofilters, house-building robots, targeted drug delivery (also nanotechnology-enabled), and self-assembly leading to desktop manufacturing (including food), many of the prototypes exist and are moving into testing. During this century, we may see all of the necessities of life become available in unlimited supply around the world.
When Jesus returns and not a minute sooner.

Now that’s the ultimate abundance society, David. Cheers, Ashley

What an interesting question!! I would love to be that hopeful, but I think things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better. And success assumes we won’t wreck the planet and poison ourselves first.

I suspect the planet is tougher than we give it credit, D. Wallace. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

probably, but are we as tough as the planet?

Maybe. However, the planet is ahead of us by millions of years, D. Wallace. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

But who will be able to afford anything when machines take everyone’s jobs. Unless we get rid of money…

Actually, Linda, more machines will lead to more jobs, including all those repair jobs when the machines glitch. One of the things I’ve noticed in retirement is that the time seems to fill up faster than it did when I worked fulltime in semiconductor engineering. Romance writing, of course, takes the biggest chunk of time each day. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley
