Picoblog Question – 2016 – Post #22

Where do Fascists fit in the 2D Political Definitions Model?

My two cents, but please share yours:

The term, Fascist, is used in two ways.

  1. Some folks use the word as a synonym for Totalitarian (low-freedom Centrist, anti-Constitutional). This is the South segment of the 2D (Plus Sign) model.
  2. Other folks use the word to refer to those who want government to control all of an individual’s personal/social freedoms, especially his or her freedom of speech (low personal/social freedom, generally medium economic freedom, anti-Constitutional). This would be the extreme endpoint of the East segment of the 2D (Plus Sign) model. If using this definition, one must be exceedingly careful to never equate Fascists with Conservatives. Conservatives value both the US Constitution and freedom of speech, highly.
