Picoblog Question – 2016 – Post #62

What is the impact of increasing government regulations on a small business?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Each new regulation adds to the costs of a small business.

  • The small business owner must take the time to understand whether the new regulation applies, and they may need to hire a lawyer for this.
  • If the regulation does apply, then there are the costs of coming into compliance, including equipment purchases and government application fees.
  • If one fails to come into compliance perfectly, then there will be hefty fines.

While large businesses can usually weather such costs, most small businesses struggle. Many go out of business, taking numerous jobs with them.

  1. Personally, I think the regulations are a part of an intentional strategy of the left to undermine private enterprise so they can let the government take over more and more of our lives.

    • You are not alone, David. The ton of current regulations has caused a huge loss in small businesses in this country, taking thousands of jobs with them. Over 94 million individuals have left the labor force, an enormous number considering the 324 million US population. Current estimates for both these numbers are available on the US Debt Clock site. (See the link on any of my quarterly debt check posts.) Cheers, Ashley
