Picoblog Question – 2016 – Post #64

What is the best tool for analyzing the political candidates prior to voting?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Instead of using the left-center-right (1D) model, I would recommend using the 2D political-definitions model.

Please recall from prior posts:

The vertical and horizontal scales of the 2D political-definitions model are visualized as a “plus” sign and tagged as follows.

  • Libertarians at north
  • Totalitarians at south
  • Centrists at the origin
  • Conservatives at east
  • Liberals at west

The endpoints are labelled as follows.

  • Northern tip as “100% Total Freedom (Anarchy)”
  • Southern tip as “0% Total Freedom (Slavery)”
  • Eastern tip as “100% Economic Freedom”
  • Western tip as “100% Social/Personal Freedom”

Note 1:  For the 2D model, Progressives are Totalitarians, not Liberals. Progressives and Liberals are only synonymous for the 1D (left-center-right) model.

Note 2:  Total Freedom = Social/Personal Freedom + Economic Freedom
