Picoblog Question – 2016 – Post #68

Should we keep the Electoral College?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Yes. The Electoral College is a compromise, designed to factor in both the popular vote as well as the votes of the states.

The states’ part ensures that large states will not dictate to small states, that coastal states will not dictate to interior states, and that states with large urban populations will not dictate to rural states.

According to several estimates, as high as 75% of the US population will reside in our cities by 2050. So, the Electoral College may become even more crucial for guaranteeing fairness in the near future. After all, city folk and country folk have always seen things differently.
