Picoblog Question – 2016 – Post #70
What is your favorite holiday beverage?
My two cents, but please share yours:
It will come as no surprise that my favorite is hot chocolate, dark chocolate of course. And yours?

Interesting question. I love hot chocolate, but for *this season* I like mulled cider and also eggnog. Mulled cider is a pain to make I think – not something to fix for myself in a one-serving size. 🙂 Store bought eggnog has a strange bitter flavor and aftertaste, preservative? It’s just not mellow and pleasant. Maybe because I don’t spike the stuff.
My mom used to make an eggnog drink (we called it a milkshake) for when we were sick – milk, egg, sugar, vanilla extract. But raw egg nowadays? Something scary about that. New thought: maybe I could look into egg substitutes – or powdered egg. Hmmm. 🙂

The powdered egg might just work, Aunt Mary. For the mulled cider, it might be possible to make a larger batch, chill it, and freeze it in single-serving plastic baggies. You could then pull a bag out, empty it into a mug, and microwave a serving at a time. I’ll have to test this theory sometime soon. Cheers, Ashley

I guess I’m boring. My favorite drinks year-round are ice water (NOT bottled) and black coffee. If it’s really cold, I sometimes drink sugar-free hot chocolate, and if I’ve got a bad cough or sore throat, I sometimes drink chicken bouillon. Mostly, though, it’s ice water and coffee.

A cup of hot chicken bouillon is wonderful for Texas seasonal allergies, David. I’m a big fan. Cheers, Ashley

I’m a fan of eggnog, but can only drink one glass because it’s so rich. With a little spiced rum and fresh nutmeg, of course. 🙂

You can make this as a single serving, D. Wallace. Just melt vanilla ice cream in a glass. Then add the rum and nutmeg. And Ta Da! Cheers, Ashley

I’m guessing soy milk is the base for the vegan version, Lorian? Cheers, Ashley
