Techie Corner – 2017 – Post #2 – Near-Future Trends
What technology trends are coming soon?
My two cents, but please share yours:
- Mass customization – rise of the importance of the individual’s needs
- Smart everything – everything connects, Internet of things
- Autonomous everything – everything moves, generally driverless
- Life returning to the home – work at home, manufacture at home (3-D printing), home entertainment
- Evolution of human jobs – will involve creative thinking, heart, and soul (machines do much of the rest).
These trends will be explored further in future picoblog posts.

I’m afraid #1 is wishful thinking. Our world seems to be becoming more and more impersonal. For instance, when’s the last time you called a business other than a Mom & Pop and had a live voice answer the phone. I hate this trend. For that reason, I refuse to use drive-through windows. I prefer to go inside and talk to a bank teller or a McDonald’s employee or whoever. I also eat breakfast out several times a week, primarily for the interaction with the waitresses.
