Foodie Corner – 2019 – Post #3 – Fast Food Freezer Staples

Are there any fast foods that make good freezer staples?

My two cents, but please share yours:

Absolutely. Here are some of my favorites. Every brand I’ve tried freezes well. Just be sure to enclose the entrée packages in gallon-size plastic freezer bags or separate into individual servings in quart-size freezer bags. Even steamed or fried rice in paper cartons freezes well.

  • Fried chicken tenders – great for quick chicken parmesan or chicken smothered in cream gravy (both done in the microwave), or grilled chicken salad with honey-mustard dressing
  • Fried chicken nuggets – great for dipping in sauces like marinara or sesame ginger
  • Chinese sweet and sour chicken – buy with the sauce on the side and freeze chicken and sauce in separate baggies (also great with other sauces like tzatziki)
  • Chinese beef and broccoli
  • Chinese chicken and cashews
  • Chinese sesame chicken
  • Breakfast tacos (any variety) – great with cheddar cheese melted on top
  • Quesadillas (no avocado or guacamole inside)
  • Chili (no guacamole inside)
  • Ground taco meat (beef, pork, or chicken) – freeze in single serving portions for last minute tacos, nachos, or salads
  • French fries
  • Tater tots
  • Gyro meat

  1. Wouldn’t have thought french fries.

    • They seem to work, David. If there’s too much moisture, I let the fries cool in the fridge with the freezer bag open. Later, I close the freezer bag and tuck into the freezer. If the fries want to stick together, I pull them from the freezer after about half an hour, jiggle the closed baggie to separate the fries, and return to the freezer until a future meal. Cheers, Ashley
