Picoblog Question – 2019 – Post #24

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dinner side dish?

My two cents, but please share yours:

As usual, I’m torn between two side dishes. Some years, I prefer the classic herb stuffing cooked inside the turkey. Other years, I lean toward scalloped potatoes au gratin, a modern alternative to the classic buttery mashed potatoes. For this year, I may have to have some of each on the upcoming one-day break from my low-carb eating plan. I do so with an abundance of gratitude.

How about you?

  1. Oh dear. What a question. 😉 I love the old greenbean casserole. Also redskin mashed potatoes – which is the dish I bring. Love pumpkin pie, but nobody else does, so I only make it at home for me, usually crustless, so it’s really pumpkin pudding. 🙂

Really, I’m a leftovers person. I like making “skeleton soup” with turkey stock. Make a bunch of stock, freeze it in jars, use it until the next turkey shows up.

Of course one could always make your mom’s turkey tet – what a treat *that* is! Freeze it in small enough containers for future dinners. Do you remember helping make huge batches of it for the neighborhood holiday parties? Although maybe we used chicken for that. Good times.

Do you have that *evil* punch recipe? heh heh heh

Happy Thanksgiving, Ashley, to you and yours.

    • Happy Thanksgiving, Aunt Mary! Actually, I think I do have both the turkey tetrazzini and the “evil” punch recipes. I believe Mom called it math-department punch in honor of one very notorious party she through for that department–will have to confirm I do have both recipes or get Fritz to email them. 🙂 Cheers, Ashley

      • Yes indeed, both those recipies are worth having. 🙂

      • So true, Aunt Mary! 🙂 Cheers, Ashley
