Picoblog Question – 2020 – Post #33

One of the hidden blessings from the shutdown was learning the importance of rest. How will you incorporate more rest in your daily life?

My two cents, but please share yours:

I’ve long been an advocate for taking a sabbath each week, a day off to simply relax, to rest the body and mind. Although this is necessary for balanced health, it doesn’t seem to be sufficient.

This fall, I’m beginning the weekly practice of taking an additional afternoon off for “refilling the well.” The afternoon will be spent stretched out, wonderfully comfortable, quietly reading and gently learning.

The topic can be almost anything but should never fire up negative emotions such as anger or require intense study like a differential-equations textbook. The topic can be work related–a book on the craft of writing, an easy-to-read history book (light research), a new cookbook, a book on classical art. The key is growth in a state of serenity, of rest.

How about you?
