Question of the Week #11: Health

Question of the Week #11:

What is your favorite diet tip?

For my two cents:  My favorite tip came from Mireille Guiliano’s “French Women Don’t Get Fat”. I like to eat half of what’s on my plate and then decide whether eating more will bring pleasure or pain. If I choose to eat more, I stop after eating half of the remaining portion and decide again whether eating more will bring pleasure or pain. About sixty percent of the time, I only make it through the first half and the remaining half goes in the fridge for another meal.

    • You’re very welcome, Casey. Please share your favorite tip, too. Cheers, Ashley

  2. Very nice perspective.

    • Thank you very much, Christy. Love to hear your favorite tip as well. Cheers, Ashley

  3. I’ve found that if I’m craving something, I can usually wait a little while and the craving goes away. However, if it’s a persistent craving, I can usually get by with just a small bite or two and that will take care of it. Smell it first and then eat the bite very very slowly savoring the texture and taste.

    • That’s a great tip, Rhonda, especially the part about using both the senses of smell and taste. Thank you for sharing it. Cheers, Ashley

  4. You must have bigger plates than I do, Ashley. My method is to eat a big breakfast, a moderate lunch and a light supper, and I rarely ever snack.

    • Hi David, It took a while, but I finally transitioned from dinner plates to luncheon plates. Making breakfast the main meal is smart. Cheers, Ashley

  5. great idea, Ashley.

    • Thank you, Louise. Any favorite tips? Cheers, Ashley

  6. I’m low carbing for now. Going gluten free helped quite a bit, but stopping all grains, potatoes, rice has really helped. I’m not seeing plunging weight loss but I have less appetite and MUCH less appetite for massive quantities of sweets, and I’m finding great substitutions for comfort foods. Mashed cauliflower works for the mashed potatoes, roasted kale is a great crunchy treat, and if I’m really in a chocolate craving I allow myself one of the small Atkins peanut butter/chocolate cups. I had spaghetti sauce with home made marinara last night and tonight. Yummmmmmmm

    • Wow, that’s a ton of diet changes, Mona. Very impressive! Since I like cauliflower, I’ll have to try your mashed version–just might work. Cheers, Ashley
